Taken by R.R.Doubleday this photo inc, includes Ruth with Boxers Young Stribling, Pat Maguire, Referee Lou Magnolia, Jack Sharkey and "Sailor" Tom Sharkey who at age 57 was likely fighting an exhibition against Maguire (not the more famous Paddy Maguire who wasnt born yet.) Card has three rounded corners and one that has come off altogether likely from a heavy crease that gave way over time. Some light creasing and a tack hole in the center between Magnolia and Jack Sharkey. Postally unused with some staining and a piece of scoth tape on the reverse. A cool opportunity to get a period photo of the Babe along with three highly regarded boxers in Stribling, and the two Sharkeys.
For those interested Jack Sharkey was actually Lithuanian and promoters didn't care for his difficult to pronounce name so he chose Jack for Jack Dempsey, whom he later lost a fight to in controversial fashion, and Sharkey for Sailor Tom who was also a Heavyweight Champ. This picture was taken about a year after Sharkey Won a decision over Stribling in Miami in a fight that was refereed and scored by Lou Magnolia and promoted by Jack Dempsey (who was filling in for the recently deceased Tex Rickard) A lot of boxing history in one postcard!
