His name is embossed in gold on the cover as WM Dinneen, Robert Dineen's (his son) name written on the inside cover in pencil along with some notes. Dinneen Was an early World Series hero winning three games in 1903, two by shut out. He struck out Honus Wagner to clinch the series. After he retired as a player he became an umpire, a fairly uncommon move only matched by a few players, and he umpired the first All-Star Game and is still the only player to throw a shut out in a World Series game and umpire a World Series game! Though he retired from the game in 1937 he stayed active and involved as evidenced by this copy of the 1941 Sporting News Record Book and Complete Rules that appears to have been presented to him. Spine is somehwat loose but intact and there is moderate to heavy wear and soiling to the outside, while the inside is in nice shape. It's basically the soft cover book that the general public could buy bound into a hard cover with the embossed name on the front.
