Box scores back to 1857, accounts of games, and match announcements. A must have for any baseball historian as New York and the surrounding areas WERE baseball in this era. Remaining 11 issues conatin content concerning cricket, Sailing, Horse racing, Boxing and more.

As all the Porter's Spirit of the Times in the auction, these were stitched into a bound volume so there is extensive spine damage including the stitch holes. Papers are complete and easily legible. Lot also includes the hardcover volume that the papers were bound in. Back cover is completely separated from the spine. Spine is embossed in gold "Porter's Spirit of the Times" and below "1857 8 9 " Inside front cover in ballpoint is "Eddie Charles Middleburg, PA" and near the bottom "This book belonged to G.E. Williams - formerly from Baltimore - Lived on E. Shoreuntil his death in 1967." As well as an obituray notice for Henry Buck who was the son of the original publisher of "The Spirit of the Times" oddly that is NOT the publication that was bound in the book which was the competing "Porter's Spirit of the Times."
