5 x 8.5 cabinet card photo of high school football player Howard Moore. Subject is identified by handwriting on both sides as "Howard Moore - High School - Charleston Illinois". We actually found 2 records of a Howard Moore that graduated from high school in Charleston, one born in 1902, the other in 1918. We assume this is the Howard Moore from 1902, as even that would put his high school years near the end of the use of cabinet cards. He apparently did not distinguish himself as a football player at the collegiate level. The photographer is also interesting. The cabinet is imprinted with "L. E. Kratzer Charleston, Ill", which makes sense with the subject identification. We did find a reference to a Lemuel Ellsworth Kratzer who was active in the correct time frame, but according to the sources we saw, he never left the area around Cincinnati, Ohio, so we do not have a positive ID on the photographer.
