We don't often launch into long-winded biographies telling you stuff you already know about the card or the player, however We feel it's appropriate to share a little of Stokes's story. He was easily on his way to becoming a massive star in the league when he fell and hit his head and was knocked unconscious during a game. He was revived and actually returned to the game and played a few more including the first round of the playoffs. On a flight after that game he suffered a seizure and was permanently paralyzed. While there's obviously nothing good about that story there is one incredible side note. Teammate Jack Twyman took care of Stokes, becoming his legal guardian and care-giver until his passing about a dozen years later. In 2013 the NBA announced the creation of the Stokes/Twyman Teammate of the Year Award honoring the incredible bond between the two for posterity.
