See lot 753 for brief sketch on Creighton. He appears as the pitcher for the Stars vs the Knickerbockers. The account states "The pitching of Creighton of the Stars rather surprised them, his speed and accuracy telling ontheir batting with considerable effect. Three of them struck out in the first innings and one in second." The game was rained out after 4 innings but a box score is included. Having a firsthand account of an early pitching outing by Creighton is one of the cooler pieces of baseball history we have seen. We can only imagine what other gems are waiting to be discovered in this treasure trove of early baseball.

As all the Porter's Spirit of the Times in the auction, this was stitched into a bound volume so there is some spine damage including the stitch holes, but this is one of the nicest condition papers in the collection. Paper is complete and easily legible with the baseball content appearing inside on pages 4 and 5.
