Jeremiah Gurney was one of the earliest photographers in America - the more well known Matthew Brady started his career as an employee of Gurney & Son. While this CDV was published by Gurney & Son, the Library of Congress credits Matthew Brady as the photographer. You can click here to visit the Library of Congress page and see a digital made from the original negative, as well as the credit information. The subject of this photo is General George Meade, commanding general of the Army of the Potomac at the battle of Gettysburg. The CDV mount bears the Gurney & Son name in the bottom left, and the full logo center back. While the name General Meade is written on the back we took the step of confirming with an image search.
